Scholarships

A scholarship is a form of financial aid that does not have to be repaid. NESCom Scholarships are offered to students each who have been enrolled for at least a semester.  Many other organizations offer scholarships to students to help further their education as well.
The NESCom Financial Aid Office strongly encourages all students to apply for scholarships to help ease the financial burden of their education and keep student loan debt manageable.

The scholarship search process can be stressful and time consuming but here are a few tips to make the process easier and more efficient:

  1. Keep a scholarship folder. The folder can be a physical folder/binder, a thumb drive,  or an electronic folder you keep on your desktop; Whatever works best for you. The folder should contain copies of recommendation letters from teachers, mentors, advisors, etc. As well as copies of essays you have written for previsus essays. You never know when you can use the same essay for a few different scholarship application.
  2. Organize your applications. All scholarships have different application deadlines and it can be hard to keep them straight. If you keep a SCHOLARSHIP TRACKER*, you will have a one-stop-shop list to keep you on track. You can even customize it by saving it as your own document and updating fields that will work better for you.
  3. Pay attention. Go through your application, essay, and other materials you will be submitting to make sure that there aren't any careless mistakes. ALWAYS spell-check and proofread. Sometimes having another person read through your essay and other materials helps to avoid mistakes.
