FAQ

What classes are required for admission?

While there are no specific classes required for admission, we encourage students to take a well rounded academic program in high school.  Strong writing skills, creative arts/fine arts skills, computer skills, and courses or experiences that develop a strong sense of teamwork are all encouraged.  For students who go into Audio based programs, strong math skills are also recommended.

Do you have to have a second language to get into the program?

While a second language is not required to enter the program, the reality is that many of our students seek employment in more metropolitan, more populated areas with a more diversified population.  Speaking a second language, particularly Spanish, has propelled students into promotions while not have Spanish language skills have stood in the way of being hired.  We strongly urge students to pick up a second language while in high school.

What is your relationship with Husson University?

NESCom is a wholly owned subsidiary of Husson University.  This means that they own us, but we operate as a completely independent college.  We have our own admissions and financial aid offices.  We have our own president.  Our facilities are located on the Husson University campus and we share the entire campus.  We share the residential halls, gym, classrooms, student resources, clubs and activities though we have our own communication center which houses most of our technology.

If a student sends paperwork to Husson will it get to you?

We ask that all paperwork be addressed to the New England School of Communications as we are two separate schools.

Can NESCom Students play on Husson’s sports teams?

NESCom students cannot play on Husson’s intercollegiate sports teams as we are not the same college.  However, NESCom students can participate in all intramural sports; have full use of the gymnasium, health and fitness center and swimming pool.  Because we offer sports broadcasting as a concentration, NESCom students tend to be very involved with Husson’s intercollegiate sports as we broadcast many of their games both on television and on the radio.

Are SATs required?

SATs are not required, though we do encourage students to take the tests and to submit their scores to us.  They will never hurt a student’s application, though they can help to draw a more accurate picture of the student’s skills.  They are also used for placement purposes in Math and English.

What is the best way for a student schedule a visit?

The best way to schedule a visit is by calling our toll-free line at 1-888-877-1876 or emailing us to set up a visit.  Visits are done Monday through Friday usually at 10:00 or 2:00.  We also offer several Open Houses a year in both the fall and the spring.

Do you have any resources for students with learning disabilities?

We ask that students provide documentation on learning disabilities prior to or during their interview so that appropriate testing arrangements may be made.  Learning resources are provided on an individual basis depending of professional accommodation recommendations.

Do you have financial aid available?

NESCom participates in a number of State and Federal financial aid programs and offers some scholarships for both under and upper classmen.  Students are encouraged to file their FAFSA forms as early after January 1st of their senior year as possible.

How do your courses run?

At NESCom, the courses run on the traditional semester system with new classes beginning in September and January.

Do students have advisors?

All students are assigned to a faculty advisor at Orientation.  Students must see their faculty advisor in order to register for classes beginning their second semester.  The college sets up the student’s first semester classes.

Is NESCom Accredited?

Yes, NESCom is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
