NESCom Students Recognized Nationally
The Broadcast Education Association, through the BEA Festival of Media Arts competition, has recognized students of the New England School of Communications (NESCom). Prestigious colleges and universities throughout the country participated and over 900 entries were submitted for judging. NESCom students received honors in two different categories. The awards are listed below.
Specialty Program Category 2nd Place NESCom Radio News Lab, New England School of Communications, “Know Before You Go” Comedy or Drama Category Honorable Mention Students of the New England School of Communications, “Edgar Allan Poe’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination”
“Know Before You Go” is an election campaign series aired on WHSN and produced by the journalism and radio broadcast students. It is a series of informational pieces designed to educate voters about candidates and issues leading up to elections.
On Halloween, students and faculty produced a live, radio-theatre broadcast from the stage of The Gracie Theatre at Husson University, featuring Edgar Allan Poe’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination.

NESCom, located in Bangor, Maine offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications for Communications Technology and Media Studies. This year’s BEA awards represent the second time NESCom Journalism and Radio Broadcast students have placed nationally for the “Know Before You Go” election series. NESCom Marketing and Communications students were also honored nationally last year in the Honda Media Challenge.
